Smoking Cessation
Contrary to claims from various modes of therapy professionals, stopping smoking does require a good deal of willpower and motivation. BUT, when Hypnotherapy is applied in the treatment, individuals are five to fifteen times more likely to succeed than by willpower alone.
Research studies have shown that the most effective treatments for smoking cessation are “multi-component” in nature. For example, the combination of Hypnotherapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which, when applied together, result in a very complementary and effective treatment protocol.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy, which focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behavior, and teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It combines cognitive therapy (examining the things you think) and behavior therapy (examining the things you do).
The Hypnotherapy works by taking you into a state of heightened suggestibility where your critical mind takes a break and we can work directly and deeply with your imagination and subconscious to create new beliefs, patterns and habits.
What Happens in a Session?
First we have a phone interview to assess your habit and motivation. If I don’t think your motivation is strong enough or if you have a lot of current stress in your life (for example following a break-up or some form of grief) I will not recommend we proceed at that time as I don’t want you wasting your money and effort. Providing your motivation is good I will provide you with a number of ways to prepare for the session, including a detailed form to be filled out and emailed back to me. Once all these are in place, we schedule to meet a week later.
The treatment is tailor-made to your needs, and is structured to take place over three sessions, each lasting up to 2 hours. During this time we review your habit and motivations in depth. I then use various techniques to "take-a-part" this habit. Interestingly, it only needs ONE of these techniques to work for you to stop; the trick is finding which one. The sessions include working deeply with your subconscious so that the skills, belief structure, and strong motivation to stop smoking, are more readily accepted.
I will also provide a support package for the challenging weeks and months that may follow. Thus includes training, guidance tools, phone support and two free back-up sessions of 45-minutes each to be used within the first 6 months of your initial treatment.
